January

As the winter months become intense, so does the urge to submit college applications. Two very important things happen in January:

1) It's a brand new year
2) The FAFSA becomes available

Senior:

Choose Final Letters of Recommendation:
   · Due dates are coming soon, you need to start wrapping up your scholarship packages.

Contact the University to find out what you received:
   · You should have received your scholarship package from the university by now, and if you haven't      contact them and ask about the status of your package.

Finalize Your essays:
   · Get your last edits from family members, teachers and friends.
   · Write your final draft because due dates are coming soon.

Junior:   Relax this month.

Sophomore:

Take SAT/ACT:
   · If you haven’t taken them you definitely need to take them this month or next so you will have time to      get your results and have two more semesters to bring your scores up (goal:  ACT–26  SAT-1100)

Start Thinking about College Visits:
   · It's best to visit the school you are considering.
   · Talk to some of the staff and college students.
   · The more questions you ask the more you'll know if you like the school

            · Do they have your major?
            · Do you like the surroundings? (big city vs. small town)
            · Do you like the demographics?
            · Do you like to go to parties, or do you like quiet time?
            · What companies do major hiring from that university?

   · These are some factors that affect a person's education, you want a good fit

Freshman:  Relax this month.
